Dr. Héctor Agüero is the Music Director of the Fort Bend Symphony and the Director of Orchestras at the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Houston.  Hailed as “a strong leader with a style everyone can follow,” Agüero has quickly become one of the most sought-after conductors of his generation.

Agüero has collaborated with internationally renowned artists such as, Andrzej Grabiec, Brian Lewis, and Roger Myers.  His chorale engagements include The Fisk Jubilee Singers and collaborations with various choral organizations.

Agüero made his operatic debut in 2006 at the Moores Opera Center in the Houston premier of Rossini’s Il Turco in Italia.

Agüero has worked as an educator for the Houston and Borden County Independent School Districts and has held several positions with the Lubbock Symphony and the Lubbock Youth Symphony Orchestras. 

Born and raised in Laredo, Texas, Agüero has earned degrees in conducting from the Texas Tech University School of Music in Lubbock, and the University of Houston’s Moores School of Music. He has studied with Gustav Meier and Kenneth Keisler through Conductors Guild workshops, and John Farrer, Daniel Lewis, and Donald Thulean at the California Conducting Institute.  His primary teachers have been Franz Anton Krager and Gary Lewis.
