Our Music Director |
Héctor Agüero, Jr., has quickly become one of the most talented and sought-after young conductors in the classical music world today. Born and raised in Laredo, Texas, Agüero excelled as a performer and was awarded several scholarships to study conducting at the School of Music at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. At Texas Tech University, Agüero received his Bachelors and Masters in Conducting, and conducted several major ensembles at the school. Having always been a keen supporter of both classical and new art music, Agüero has been called upon to conduct some of the most advanced new music being composed, including several film and multimedia projects. Seeing the need to bring the best in music to the new generation of classical music lovers and performers, teaching is Agüero’s way of sharing his passion and fulfilling this need. Besides his work as a conductor, Agüero has worked as an educator for the Borden County Independent School District and has held several positions as assistant production manager for the Lubbock Symphony and the Lubbock Youth Symphony Orchestras. Most recently, he was appointed Orchestra Director for The High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Houston.
Agüero is currently a Schissler Conducting Fellow at the Moores School of Music pursuing his Doctorate in Conducting and serving as assistant conductor of the Moores Opera Center. He has studied with Gustav Meier and Kenneth Keisler through Conductors Guild workshops. His primary teachers are Franz Anton Krager and Gary Lewis. His most recent performance was with the Moores School Chamber Orchestra featuring Mendelssohn’s Hebrides Overture and Ibert’s Concertino da Camera. This past summer, Agüero was invited to conduct the Bakersfield Symphony as a participant in the California Conducting Institute. Agüero currently resides in Katy, Texas with his wife Laura and their daughter Eva Grace.
