The Fort Bend Symphony Orchestra opens its 15th season with the exotic sounds of Spain in a concert entitled: In a Latin Mood. The concert is scheduled for Sunday, October 22, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at the Stafford Centre, 10505 Cash Road, Stafford, Texas. Joaquín Rodrigo’s "Concierto de Aranjues" will feature Jeremy Garcia on Spanish guitar. This piece is a perennial crowd favorite and has been recorded by such diverse artists as Jose Feliciano, Miles Davis, and Pepe Romero. Mr.Garcia is a founding member of the nuevo flamenco group Garcia y Reyna which performs regularly at venues in the Houston area, as well as with the Fly Dance Company, a hip-hop dance troupe, in performances around the United States. Garcia y Reyna have been described as having “…incredible finger fire” by Molly Glentzer of the Houston Chronicle. In addition to his active performance schedule, Mr. Garcia directs the guitar program at San Jacinto College South and actively shares his talent with young students at every opportunity. The Orchestra will also perform "Capriccio Espagnol" by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov and "España" by Emmanuel Chabrier. Prior to the concert the Orchestra will present a program entitled Tune In, a pre-concert session that provides an opportunity for interaction between members of the audience and the symphony, with a focus on educational activities and an introduction to classical music and instruments. There is no additional fee for this program. Tickets to the Sunday afternoon performance are $12 for adults and $7 for senior citizens and students. Season subscriptions can be purchased at a reduced rate on the Orchestra’s website or at the door. The Fort Bend Symphony Orchestra, often declared to be the best kept secret in the area, has been in existence since 1992. The orchestra draws some of the most talented and energetic musicians from the Houston Metropolitan area. The full size orchestra provides an opportunity for its musicians to perform great musical compositions and to impart lasting musical and social values as a service to the Fort Bend community. Dr. John Ricarte, Conductor and Musical Director, who is celebrating his 10th year with the Orchestra, noted that the musicians of the orchestra have been working hard to prepare an outstanding program. “I am excited about our new season and look forward to providing music that will be enjoyed by everyone. The programs we have selected for the coming year will showcase the great talents of our musicians as well as providing fabulous entertainment for our audiences,” he said.
