Amanda Walker, 20, of Sugar Land is set to perform with the Fort Bend Symphony Orchestra this Sunday, December 2 at 2:00 p.m. at the Stafford Centre, 10505 Cash Road, Stafford, TX. The Orchestra will be conducted by Maestro Ken Masur, who was recently appointed Resident Conductor for the San Antonio Symphony.
Walker, a Soprano who graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in 2005, is now studying vocal performance at Southern Methodist University. She is regularly a soloist with the SMU Meadows Chorale, at the University Park Methodist Church and at the Southminster Presbyterian Church in Missouri City. She grew up listening to the sounds of the Fort Bend Symphony – her mother, Becky, plays violin with the group and has volunteered her time and talents as a graphic artist for the Symphony for many years.
“I am thrilled to have Amanda perform with me on stage for this concert,” said Becky. “She has been exposed to classical music and attended our concerts since she was 4 years old. I recently realized that when she was little, she was the little girl that came out of the audience to give the flowers to the soloist, and now she will be on stage performing as the soloist. It makes me very proud.” Walker will lend her beautiful voice to “Oh, Holy Night”, excerpts from “The Messiah”, and will lead the crowd in a traditional holiday carol sing-along. The program will also include several movements of the Nutcracker featuring Susanna Campbell on Harp, as well as crowd favorites including “Frosty the Snowman” and “Sleigh Ride”. Rumor has it that Santa enjoys symphonic music and sources say that the jolly old fellow will be available for photos in the Stafford Centre lobby prior to the concert. Ticket prices range from $5 - $25 and may be purchased on the Symphony website at http://www.fbso.org/ or at the Stafford Centre box office on the day of the performance. The Stafford Centre is located at 10505 Cash Road in Stafford. For more information, visit the Symphony’s website or call 281.276.9642. # # #
