The Magic of Music: A Children's Concert Adventure

Fort Bend Symphony Orchestra | May 23, 2026, 10:30 am | George Memorial Library

Step into a world where YOU become the conductor! Under the expert guidance of Principal Conductor Julie Sorensen, young music lovers and their families will embark on an enchanting 45-minute journey through the fundamentals of orchestral music.

Armed with special conductor's batons (magic white pencils!), children will help guide the Fort Bend Symphony Orchestra through musical masterpieces, discovering how their movements can make the music play staccato or legato, loud or soft. It's hands-on music education at its most magical!

Experience the wonder of:

  • Meeting each instrument family up close as principal players demonstrate their unique sounds

  • Bizet's spirited Farandole to explore melody and articulation

  • Stravinsky's dramatic Firebird finale to master dynamics

  • Haydn's delightful Surprise Symphony with its unexpected twists

  • A thrilling flight with music from How to Train Your Dragon

  • Grieg's beloved Peer Gynt Suite, bringing all the concepts together in one spectacular finale

But the magic doesn't stop when the music ends! After the concert, stay for our popular Instrument Petting Zoo, where young musicians can touch, explore, and ask questions about the very instruments they just heard on stage—maybe sparking a lifelong love of music!

Perfect for families, educators, and curious minds of all ages. Come discover why orchestral music is truly magical!
