The Fort Bend Symphony Orchestra started the Concerto Competition in 2000. It was unnamed until Marielle Ogletree came along. Marielle was a dedicated volunteer for FBSO, helping at concerts and the Concerto Competition. Her husband James remembers her involvement: “Marielle was always listening to all types of music. After our adopted daughter became interested in music, she turned to helping all she could with those involved in music. Marielle loved the Fort Bend Symphony and their effort to give the local area an enjoyable and classical entertainment experience. She spent many hours over several years, until her bout with cancer, helping in with the Concerto Competition.” In the 2013-14 season, James Ogletree became the headline Sponsor for the concerto competition, naming it in loving memory of his wife, Marielle. James is still part of the family of FBSO, and the musical spirit of Marielle lives on in all the winners.
